LAYERS OF LIGHTING
Easily one of the most important interior design elements, lighting can make or break your space!
Within our homes, we host various functions in every room. We need the most excellent lighting to accommodate our needs to eat, play, and rest. Not to mention, color is a vital part of a successful design, so we need lighting in more ways than one.
Illuminate Your Passion
Many of our clients are truly living in the dark until we enlighten them on how to properly use and locate lighting. We want to make this as fun and simple for you to take away a few key steps on how to achieve great lighting in your home. Each room of your home will require different types of lighting, but our favorite tip is to use the 4 layers of lighting. By utilizing this 4-layer rule, you can begin to understand how lighting plays a critical role in our daily lives. Consider cooking in the kitchen, reading a book before bed, or barely waking up in the morning. For all the activities and functions in our homes, we must be able to adjust and provide the correct lighting for our wellbeing.
The Big Four
Read this next section very carefully, as this is a major factor for a successful lighting experience. Let's practice the 4 layers of lighting in a kitchen. We will need recessed lighting in the ceiling to illuminate the entire space, especially with lack of windows or at night. You should have decorative pendants over your island or peninsula. Under your upper cabinets or floating shelves, LED strip lighting will help you focus on your cooking and prepping tasks. Accent lighting is often missed, and trust us, it makes all the difference. Examples of accent lighting can be hidden in your kitchen, such as in the toe-kick area, behind a tray ceiling detail, or even in the drawers to illuminate utensils/spices. Learn more about these layers of lighting below.
